This is just a short muse about the issue for those who are interested in the results.
I read a very informative article by Andrea Lawrence on Medium, “Was Your Article Stolen By The Arena Group or Its Third Parties?” She examined detailed data in her research on that issue.1
The things she discussed had been haunting HubPages authors ever since The Arena Group (TAG) took over the HubPages platform and removed all the features the prior staff had developed to make online writing profitable. That made writers' efforts to create new content worthless.
I, for one, had removed all my articles and moved them here on my website. However, many HubPages authors either were not paying attention or were simply uninterested in protecting their creative works from theft.
In any case, I have to credit Andrea for the work she put into writing her article. She definitely put a lot of research into the developments after TAG announced shutting down the platform.
It's terrible how TAG took advantage of all of us. It seems that was their intention from the beginning. Andrea Lawrence wrote another review of that entire process (listed in the references below).2
They offered to let us delete our articles or leave them for TAG to use as they pleased. That’s when I acted quickly to remove all my content.
Interestingly, I noticed TAG was making money off the remaining content. After I wrote my article, where I suggested we all buy TAG stock when it was trading at only 60¢, it rose to over $7.00. That would have been over a 1000% profit for anyone who bought the stock.
I could see something was fishy. Why did our revenue drop when their capitalization skyrocketed?
I had purchased some shares at 80¢ after writing my article, and I took my profits at $5.00 when I saw it was dropping from its high.
That's when it seemed they were making money off our content. But they were doing something wrong too, which might account for the recent decline of their stock.
Now it’s down to $2.00. Still higher than when I wrote about it, but still indicating something is not going well for them. That’s no surprise to me since they foolishly eliminated all the features that HubPages had proved to work so well for writers in the past.
If you got this far, let me know with a thumbs-up.
