This story follows an intense romantic relationship through five narrative poems, beginning with passion and lust, leading to heartbreak and eventual separation with the emotional psyche and trauma of a failed relationship.
Introduction:
I sometimes find it compelling to use poetry to convey insight and awareness concerning relationships. This story is about a romantic relationship that started strong with passion and lust. However, problems ensued, and they eventually broke up despite the intent of making it last.
The relationship began with the discovery of similar interests, hence the synchronicity. They quickly discovered many common values and desires.
It started as a friendship, and had no secrets to conceal from one another. In the beginning they accepted one another as they were.
As more was shared, they became overwhelmed with feelings. Past lives and baggage emerged, and trouble pursued. Trust became an issue.
Failure to communicate became more common. Finally giving up, knowing that nothing could be resolved.
This first phase is about how synchronicity brought two lovers together after a shaky start, to grow closer.
After an initial breakup for reasons unclear
Our paths once again cross, and I see my dear.
It was unexpected, with no thought involved.
But it opened communication for problems to be solved.
She told me she was leaving in a week to visit her family.
Without thinking, I offered a ride to the airport merrily.
We both agreed to enjoy the week before her departure
With no actual discussion and just some nurture.
We agreed that we’d talk a month later upon her return.
So we went with the flow and discovered much to learn.
We got to know each other more than before.
It’s undoubtedly a feeling that may endure.
This second phase reveals the mistakes made by overlooking trust and respect.
What are we doing with this relationship?
Are we just here for the companionship?
Concentrating only on the periphery
leaves us eventually feeling jittery.
We haven’t focused on its inner core
although we’ve had a great rapport.
By avoiding what really mattered
we came to a state of feeling battered.
We missed out on developing a real experience
and bringing our relationship to actual deliverance.
If only we were able
to make our feelings stable
Knowing and understanding one another completely
would’ve helped discover mutual needs so sweetly.
Trust in the process
could’ve bound our hearts regardless.
That, I feel, is necessary to create a bond throughout
that cannot be broken by fear or by doubt.
This third phase describes how it’s difficult to see the forest for the trees, as the saying goes, when lovers are deeply involved with passion and lust.
When a new relationship starts too fast
With passion and lust mainly amassed.
Sensual feelings typically emerge
Before devotion and trust converge.
Love and affection might tend to lapse
And a potential relationship could collapse.
Lust alone would leave it deficient.
Mutual respect is more efficient.
A strong foundation of trust and respect
Helps get through tough times in retrospect.
Relationships involve both happiness and sorrows
And disagreements make mysterious bedfellows.
Couples need to learn to appreciate one another
And understand one’s background they discover.
Only when partners learn the other’s true feelings
They will indeed grow in a relationship that’s fulfilling.
Challenging issues may not be a preference.
That takes time and requires acceptance.
When quarrels occur, words can be heard as discontent
When all along, something completely different was meant.
Partners should be on the same side as team players.
And work on a common goal among friends and neighbors.
While values and beliefs can be conveyed,
The partnership grows, with love and affection displayed.
A bond given a chance to mature is something to relish,
Assuming both partners want the relationship to flourish.
Eventually, they feel they are on the same team.
And they protect one another with great self-esteem.
This fourth phase is about breaking up, ending a passionate romance, and moving on, with hidden feelings brought to the surface.
Synchronicity leaps on the very first day.
There is much to discover and a desire to stay.
Be it a friendship or lovers to be,
Sure is a mystery for you and for me.
Our voices harmonized but rarely defeated.
Nevertheless, we were never conceited.
Many months go by with being ourselves.
More sharing continues but overwhelms.
A puzzling past that is hard to conceive.
The desire for explanations leaves little to believe.
Attempts to clear the confusion leads to dismay.
And saying goodbye because there’s nothing left to say.
This fifth and final phase reviews the mistakes while being alone once again. On the outside looking in, things become clear.
Unsure at first, then feelings develop
Craving for more and caring envelops
Attentive to her delicate cues although she may not have known
Accepting all differences and desiring a future sealed in stone
But she found one thing disparaging
and no longer was acknowledging
With a futile team effort, she wanted to be freed
Recognizing challenges and appreciating her need
Set free when requested only because of love
What more can I give with no sign from above
The past now cut off, leaving only fond memories
The future cut off too, without further discoveries
Only the present remains,
Heartbroken
